Much of the funding to develop affordable housing, particularly for people with disabilities at SSI income levels, will be used for “service-enriched” housing.  Service-enriched means on-site case management and other services in an apartment building.  This type of housing has previously been used mostly for homeless people, but is now expanding.

The other side of this page has information about an online forum through November 18, followed by a public meeting on December 5.  You are invited to participate if you can.

ARCIL can help you to learn more service-enriched housing or tell state leaders what you think.

We have heard from a few people who do not like service-enriched housing because they don’t need to be “supervised” in a setting that “feels like an institution.”  They say they need housing they can afford, not more case management.

What do you think?

State Housing Forum

In preparation of the Housing & Health Services Coordination Council’s 2012-2013 Biennial Plan, the Council is soliciting feedback regarding the Plan’s content, particularly with regards to outstanding barriers and challenges to the creation of service-enriched housing in Texas for people with disabilities and people who are elderly. To this end, the Council has launched the HHSCC Online Discussion Forum.

This Discussion Forum will be open for one month, from Friday, October 21st, 2011 until Friday, November 18th, 2011. Discussion questions have been posed by the Council, but participants are welcome to submit questions as well. Please check the site often to view comments posted by other participants.  Any questions raised in the posts are for the benefit of the participants in the Discussion Forum and a poster should not expect a response from the Council. In order to participate in the HHSCC Online Discussion Forum, go to: https://tdhca.websitetoolbox.com/ and click on the “Register” tab in the top right-hand side of the page. After completing registration, you will receive a confirmation email inviting you to begin participating in the Forum.

The results of the Discussion Forum will be presented and discussed at the next HHSCC meeting on Monday, December 5th, 2011. For those wishing to submit comment in person, public comment will also be accepted at the December 5th meeting – details can be found here:  http://www.tdhca.state.tx.us/hhscc/council-meetings.htm. If you would like to learn more about the Council, please visit their website at: http://www.tdhca.state.tx.us/hhscc/index.htm.
