*These classes have limited enrollment. Please register in advance..Beginning Computers: Focus on learning the basics of the computer including the hardware components of a computer system and the software in MS Office. Make an impression in your community and at work. Advanced Computers: The class will include but not be limited to; managing files on USB drives, scanning hard copy documents into digital images, attaching files to emails, basic hard drive maintenance, cleaning up internet files from hard drives, and web browser security. Apple MAC Tutorials: The class will learn about Apple MAC OS basics, using the apple mouse, desktop, opening, saving & printing. Moving files from CD/USB drives to the MAC, using Safari to browse the web, basic picture manipulation with iPhoto, basic video editing with iMovie, and basic music exercises with Garageband.
Cooking Healthy: The class will learn how to cook healthy foods from different cultures, preperation of meals, oven safety and food sampling
Employment 101: Learn about the world of work; utilize the computer labe to develop independent living skills to prepare for future employment. Learn the current state of the job market, disability -friendly employers in the Austin area, Ticket-to-Work program, DARS, career fields, and what employers want from employees.
Keeping Fit: Your Body/Your Mind: Practice some new moves on keeping fit. Class will incorporate ideas from adaptive yoga and low impact movement processes that are easy to make use of in your daily life as you develop an individual wellness plan..
Money Management: Whether you are new to money management or you simply want to make better use of your income, this class is for you. Includes hands-on-practice, budgeting exercises and help with basic math and use of money.
Peer Counseling: If you have experienced a disability, you may be the best counselor for someone else with a disability. Learn how to support your peers through listening and sharing experiences. Learn how to face the challenges of relationships and how to advocate for yourself and others.
Personal Safety: Learn to be safe as you go about your life - in the workplace, at school, at home and in the community. Learn assertiveness skills, avoiding danger, recognizing abuse and practicing safety strategies.
Self Advocacy and Problem Solving: A step-by-step approach to becoming a better advocate for yourself with friends, family and others. Learn advocacy skills that will enable you to stand up for yourself and to express your needs.
Sexuality and Relationships: Learn more about healthy adult sexuality and how to avoid unsafe behaviors and violence as you interact with the people in your life.
Social Recreation: Develop skills for accessing and evaluating recreational opportunities. Grow socially as you develop skills to advocate for people with disabilities in the area of recreation and leisure.
