WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT?
CLASS DESCRIPTIONS FOR THE COOLEST OF THE COOL SUMMER PROGRAMS

TRANSITION, MOVIN’ ON   Will you graduate from high school in the next few years?  Have you graduated in the last few years?  Do you ask yourself what comes next and wonder what the possibilities are?   Join our group for high school students and recent grads.  Get together with old and new friends and talk about your dreams and plans.  Learn about housing, jobs and continuing education.  Get to know the people in your community and what they can do to help you get where you’re goin’.

MUSIC FOR THE VERY COOL: ACCESSING MUSIC AND THE ARTS IN AUSTIN  Learn how to access and to advocate for your personal entertainment and recreational choices as we explore the world of music and the arts in Austin.  Plug into the community and assess the challenges for people with disabilities as you come up with solutions to overcome the barriers to complete participation.  Be inspired by professional musicians and artists who will share their talents and ideas about what’s going on in town.  We will also attend performances and events as a group and individually and share our experiences.  No cost except for concerts or events.

MANAGING YOUR HOME AND KITCHEN  Want to truly live independently?  An introduction to what it takes to run your own home – or to contribute more effectively in the home where you live now.  Learn about balancing a budget, making your home accessible, organizing your food system including shopping and food preparation.  And, Yes, we will cook and eat the good things you prepare!

Note:  If you are new to ARCIL, you will need an intake appointment.  Please call Jane Leifeste to set up that appointment at 832-6349.  Many people are not able to attend all our classes due to summer commitments.   Feel free to sign up if you can be there most of the time and be sure to ask about other ARCIL services.
