POSITION TITLE: Independent Living Services Coordinator

DEPARTMENT: ARCIL Round Rock

SUPERVISOR: Deputy Director

WORK HOURS: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

STATUS: Salaried Non - exempt

POSITION SUMMARY:

Promote independent living philosophy and provide independent living services in Williamson, Bell, Milam and Burnet Counties. Transportation required in performance of job duties.  


POSITION DUTIES:

1) Perform outreach, intake, and information and referral services for people with all types of disabilities.

2) Assists people with significant disabilities to develop consumer directed goals and Independent Living Plans.

3) Offers and/or arranges for

a. Independent living skills development,

b. Peer support,

c. Individual and systems advocacy,

d. Classes including, but not limited to training in such areas as assertiveness, household management, disability rights and social skills.

4. Offers Assistive Technology services, including, but not limited to, the submission of paperwork to the state, training in usage, and assistance in acquiring funding.

5. Offers assistance and coordinates efforts to modify housing for accessibility.

6. Identifies and tracks local, state, and national issues relevant to people with disabilities. 

7. Maintain and develop an information data base to assist consumers in gaining access to community services.

8. Recruit volunteers to provide support for day to day activities and special events.

9. Identify community options to conduct IL activities.

10. On a daily basis transmit documentation.

11. Delivery of services which are reflective of an independent Living Philosophy.

12. Completes consumer satisfaction surveys on workshops, training and other consumer directed services.

13. Other duties as assigned within the position description.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. BA degree in from an accredited university in Education, Vocational Rehabilitation or related field (directly related work experience might be considered and may substitute). 
  2. Demonstrated ability to take initiative and to work with little supervision.
  3. Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to relate well to a broad spectrum of people.
  4. Good communication skills both oral and written.
  5. Skills in data collection, analysis, interpretation, and reporting.
  6. Remote computer networking skills.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bilingual (English – Spanish)
  2. American Sign Language.
