Provide support services to assist in the development and maintenance of independent skills for persons with disabilities. A valid driver license and transportation required in performance of job duties.
A. Outreach and Development
Coordinate Independent Living Services on individual basis to people with disabilities; take referrals; pursue employment and independent goals with participants; work with people with disabilities on completion of goals; support people with disabilities in areas requiring advocacy; make referrals to other organizations as needed; work with families of participants when appropriate.
B. Advocacy and Education
• Advocate for the collective needs of people with disabilities.
• Work with advocacy groups within ARCIL service area.
• Participate in staffing and instructional activities as assigned.
• Assist consumer in the Development of IL Skills
C. Other
Document services provided according to policies and procedure. Maintain objective, clear and concise records of contacts in participant's file; solicit needed information from consumers for program evaluation and reporting purposes; record completed requests for information.
Assist in the maintenance of records as defined by RSA, which as a minimum must include:
1.Documentation concerning eligibility or ineligibility fo services.
2.The service requested by the consumer.
3.Either the IL plan developed with the consumer or a wiaver signed by the consumer stating that an Independent Living Plan (ILP) is unnecessary.
4.The service actually provided.
5.The IL or objectives -established with the consumer as self-reported by the consumer. (Goals must be completed in the consumer’s CSR, whether or not the consumer signed an ILP or waiver).
6.And other RSA grant related documentation.
A. Essential job functions
• Ability to counsel with and listen to the concerns of people with disabilities.
• Ability to assist people with disabilities plan, and achieve, personal goals.
• Knowledge of community‑based services available to people with disabilities.
• Knowledge of general laws and regulations providing rights and benefits to persons with disabilities.
• Knowledge and understanding of the philosophy and goals of independent living/disability rights movement.
• Ability to express ideas clearly in both written and oral communications.
• Knowledge of employment services and community supports for persons with disabilities such as such as architectural accessibility, housing, transportation, personal care, etc.
• Knowledge of internal computer network database system used for tracking services, primary documentation and individual file compilation.
• Ability to develop effective self-advocacy and Independent Living skills in people with disabilities.
B. Minimum Qualifications
Degree in a field related to Social Work, Psychology or Counseling
Prefer personal experience with a disability
Two years experience working with people with disabilities. Will substitute for related degree.
Ability to understand and commit to the independent living philosophy movement.
