Please advise all hurricane evacuees who have disabilities and who still have unmet needs resulting from the Hurricanes to call the FEMA Helpline (1-800-621-3362) to identify themselves as "special needs" or "disabled" to discuss their unmet needs, if they have already registered with FEMA.
They can call that same number to register: 1-800-621-3362 for FEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Administration.
www.KatrinaHealth.org
This is a new, free, and secure online service which can connect Katrina evacuees, doctors, and pharmacists with important information about the prescription drugs evacuees were taking before they were forced to flee their homes.
Call 212-713-7609 or email stejwani@markle.org with any questions.
For evacuees who were homeless, lived in public housing or held Section 8 vouchers and are not eligible for FEMA individual assistance, those households will now receive vouchers worth 100 percent of the fair market rent in the community where the evacuee has relocated.
Households should contact the local housing authority to participate. HUD has established a free housing hotline for these families at 888-297-8685.
