May 12 Ballot on Property Tax Cut

Voters in Texas will decide on an amendment to the state constitution to lower property taxes for homeowners who are disabled or over age 65.  The amendment gives them the same tax cut passed by the Texas Legislature in 2005.

When the legislature passed a one-third reduction of school property taxes beginning in 2006 and to be completed this year, it did not apply to senior citizens and people with disabilities. The state constitution caps school property taxes for homeowners 65 years or older and those who are persons with disabilities. However, they did not receive the reduction when the property tax cut was passed two years ago.

ARCIL encourages people with disabilities to learn about the candidates for office and all the issues on the ballot, then get out and vote.
